  3. Irish Senior Cup : Leading Clubs 2003 - 2012
11th September 2012 by Gerry Byrne

Irish Senior Cup : Leading Clubs 2003 - 2012

Leading Clubs in the Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup between 2003 and 2012.

 As we come to the end of another BKISC and introduce a new Competition in the RSA National Cup it seems interesting to look back over the last 10 years to see who were the outstanding 10 Clubs over that period in the BKISC.

 The basis on which I have done this is to look each year at the 32 Clubs who have played in the competition from round 1 through to the final, ignoring therefore those who only played in the various preliminary rounds in each year.

 Of those 32 clubs in each year I have awarded 1 point to those defeated in the first round, 2 to those defeated in the second round, 3 to those defeated in the quarter final, 4 to those defeated in the semi final, 5 to the defeated finalist and 6 to the competition winner.

 In all there were 49 clubs who appeared over this 10 year period, with 7 appearing only once, though one of these did get through to the second round in the year they appeared. Perhaps the team one might have least expected to see there is University College Cork!

 The order of the full 49 clubs appears below but the top 10 are as follows, with the points they gained that placed them there appearing opposite their name, and also their number of cup wins in this 10 year period:-

4Limavady301
5The Hills291
6Donemana27
7Waringstown251
8=Clontarf23
8=Phoenix23
10Rush21

Probably not surprising that the clubs in the 10 ten feature 9 of the 10 winners over this 10 year period.  Indeed the only winner during that period who is missing, Leinster, is only a whisker away as they feature in joint 11th spot, just 1 point behind Rush.

 Of the 49 teams who played in the 10 year period,  they came from the following Provincial Unions

Leinster CU13
Munster CU4
Northern CU15
North West CU17

The full order of the 49 Clubs who have played is as follows:-
