Improving behaviour and conduct – have your say

A regular comment to Cricket Leinster representatives is about the poor standard of behaviour and how it impacts on the enjoyment of those participating. In 2018, Cricket Leinster introduced Law 42 and other minor initiatives, yet again there has been an increase in the number of reports to the Disciplinary Committee.

Cricket Leinster are considering introducing further measures for the 2019 season including:

  • Introduction of non-playing umpires for matches without LCU&SA official umpires
  • Increased penalties for clubs whose players are reported including deduction of points and omission from cup competitions
  • Increased penalties for captains whose players are reported

Along with these measures, a review of the Disciplinary processes is proposed.

With nearly 50 cases to be heard this year, there is a considerable workload for those volunteers on the Disciplinary Committee; ways of reducing this workload on the committee will also be considered.

Two meetings are proposed and those willing to contribute are asked to attend meetings on Tuesday 16th October at 7.30pm in the Stillorgan Park Hotel and on Tuesday 23rd October at 7.30pm at the same venue.

Cricket Leinster are also happy to receive written submissions to president@cricketleinster.ie or kevin.gallagher@cricketleinster.ie

The intention of the process is to make a recommendation to the Cricket Committee in October.

Derek Dockrell, President.
