Four Busy Days Ahead of The Lightning

Four Busy Days Ahead of The Lightning

The Lightning travel to Eglinton on Tuesday to face the Warriors in a top of the table clash in the InterProvincial 50 Over Cup.

Both sides have beaten the Knights in this competition, the Warriors by 8 wickets and the Lightning on that stunning day at The Hills, when Simi Singh (121*) and George Dockrell (98*) put on a world record 215 for the seventh wicket in leading Leinster to a 53-run win.

As a result, it is simply net run rate that has the Lightning on top. When the two sides met recently in the IP20 they served up a low-scoring thriller that went down to the last delivery. Neither coaching team, nor their players, will appreciate similar drama when play gets underway at 10.45am at Eglinton.

On Wednesday, the teams will move from Eglinton to Bready and shift their focus from one-day to Championship cricket.

The Lightning batted well on Day 3 against the Warriors to secure a draw at Sydney Parade in early May before a scintillating century from John Anderson (123*), brought the Leinster side victory over the Knights in Comber just three weeks ago.

Therefore, the Lightning lead the way in the Championship table also but, having played a game more than their hosts, will be looking to consolidate that position from Wednesday morning at 11am.

Twelve-man squads have been announced for both matches with 10 players included in both panels. Kevin O’Brien and Eddie Richardson will be involved in Tuesday’s IP50 match only, with Tom Stanton and Jarred Barnes joining up for Wednesday’s Championship encounter.

As always there will be live updates and photographs throughout all Leinster Lightning matches on Twitter @cricketleinster and @LCU_Lightning with daily reports on cricketleinster.ie
