One of the highlights of the youth season each year is the final of the U13 Cup. The winner of the cup competition goes on to play in the all Ireland finals.
The U13s is really the first time that you get to see young cricketers, boys and girls, playing in a proper format game. The standard is very high and it is a pleasure to see potential future internationals at the start of their career. For parents and clubs, as well as for those taking part, it is a great competition.
This year YMCA take on Merrion at Anglesea Road [5.30]. YMCA must start as favourites being undefeated and top of the league with five out of five wins and on the back of a win also in the U11 Cup. Merrion get to the final following a dramatic win in the semi-finals against a much fancied Pembroke side in which they managed to defend a total of 70. Merrion have also had a good season and only lost one match.
It promises to be an excellent final. YMCA go into the final with Lucy O’Reilly unavailable due to commitments for the Irish Womens team and Gaby Lewis due to injury. Merrion are without Richard Bisgood and Charlie Eddershaw who are unavailable due to holidays.
The YMCA team is: Harry Tector (capt), Rory McGovern, Aviral Shukla, Stephen Keane, Claudia Johnston, Stuart Jackson, Eoghan Copeland, Michael O'Reilly, Mitchell Thompson, Harry McEvoy, and Tim Tector
The Merrion team is from Louis Brennan [Capt], JJ Walsh, Aaron Naughton, Jack Stapleton, Leah Paul, Michael McNulty, Ross Henderson, Kumayl Vazir, Max Neville, Sean Hussey, Daniel Ivers and Sean Stanton.
