  3. DOUBLE DAYS OF VICTORY FOR 'TARF & 'BROKE - SPORTSHUB PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND-UP!
21st June 2025 by Mick Cotter

DOUBLE DAYS OF VICTORY FOR 'TARF & 'BROKE - SPORTSHUB PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND-UP!

It was another brilliant 'Super Saturday' in the SportsHub Premier League today, with the big winners being Clontarf and Pembroke who secured two victories to progress their respective league prospects this season, whilst the final featured action of the day finished with a tie between The Hills and Malahide!

We kicked off the day in Balbriggan, where having batted first, the home side were indebted to some excellent work from Lara Maritz early on, the former international sharing a stand of 70 with Ciara Gibson before being dismissed for 48. This brought Gibson and Tess Maritz together, and the pair added 66 more before the opener was dismissed for 37.

Tess Maritz's 46 eventually guided the 'Brig to 155/4 in their 20 overs, however good spells from Gemma Sargent and Julie McNally, taking 2 wickets apiece, were ultimately what ensured 'Tarf were in the game at the halfway stage.

Alice Walsh was superb for Clontarf in both run-chases

After another quarter of the game, they were miles ahead of the game, as Alice Walsh and Sue Lawless plundered the ball to all corners of Jack Harper Park, passing 100 inside 10 overs, as Walsh boxed her way to 60 from just 43 deliveries, and in spite of a good second spell by Lara Maritz seeing her finish with 3/12, Genevieve Morrissey was able to see the Castle Avenue side to victory with 15 balls to spare.

Elsewhere in the opening game, 92 from Clare Shillington helped Pembroke pile up 178/3 in their 20 overs, which Leinster fell 50 runs short of, Izzy McLean the pick of the bowlers with 3/20. Meanwhile, over in The Vineyard, a maiden century for Jane Maguire, accompanied by 63 from Abbi Harrison, saw them guide The Hills to 211/2 in their 20 overs, before 2/16 for Erin Carroll, and 2/22 for Maguire herself guided the side to a 92 run victory.

The featured action then shifted to Skerries for the mid-afternoon game, and Ocean Bartlett's half-century underpinned a modest batting effort from Rush, as they managed 115/6 in their 20 overs. Bartlett shared a stand of 45 for the second wicket with Aoife Beggs, who made 21, before Malahide tightened their bowling up and ensured no other batter passed 12 for the remainder of the innings.

Malahide began their chase confidently, as Meg Thompson made 22, however when she was dismissed with the score on 40, it was the first of an opening burst of three wickets for Aoife Beggs which spun the game in Rush's favour. Bartlett bowled in tandem with her skipper, conceding just 13 runs from her four overs and putting the side in the driving seat.

Aaditya Ramnathpur delivered a nerveless final over

They hadn't reckoned on the partnership between Sarah Brophy and Saibh Mitchell however, as they made 23 runs each, taking Malahide all the way from 78/5 to the brink of victory. However, with five needed off three balls, Aaditya Ramnathpur proved to be the hero, delivering three balls for just one run to secure a 3 run win for the Kenure side.

Back over in Balbriggan, a second blistering half-century of the day saw Alice Walsh pulverise Phoenix in the second game, as 'Tarf chased down their target of 117 in just 70 deliveries, securing full points for the Castle Avenue side. Meanwhile in Rathmines, Shillington was once again in the runs, as Pembroke posted 136/2 in their 20 overs, supported by 33* from Shauna Kavanagh. This total proved to be 17 too many, as Kimli McDonald took 3/19, supported by 2 apiece for Vanshika Shukla and Zoe Bell to round out Pembroke's day with a victory.

The final featured game of the day saw The Hills start like a house on fire with the bat, Tahlia Dunne and Aimee Maguire adding 101 in the first 10 overs, before Anna Kerrison entered the attack for The Village. Her spell began with the wicket of Maguire, before just two balls later Dunne followed her back to the pavilion.

Malahide took this cue to turn the screw, and Kerrison picked up a further two wickets to finish with 4/15, as The Hills were restricted to just 36 runs in the final 10 overs, finishing 137/8 in their 20 overs.

The innings began with Erin Carroll cleaning up Meg Thompson first ball, however the moods of the innings was ultimately tainted when Carroll sustained a nasty injury making a superb save on the boundary just before the half-way stage. She was taken to hospital and we wish her a speedy recovery.

Malahide recovered thanks to an excellent partnership between Sarah Condron (39) and Sorcha O'Carolan-Murphy (47) - the pair taking the side from a precarious position to the brink of pulling off something special. Tahlia Dunne and Tara O'Brien returned to the attack and put The Hills back on top again, however a sensational effort off the final ball saw Malahide's batters sliding just inches short of an unbelievable victory, when Dunne athletically threw the stumps down from close range.

Tahlia Dunne's return spell spun the game back on it's head

Elsewhere, there was a third chase of the day in Balbriggan, as Lara Maritz took her turn to blaze an unbeaten half-century, taking just 24 balls to make 65 in chasing down Phoenix's 108/7 inside 8 overs.

Finally in Rathmines, Merrion made 154/4 in their 20 overs, thanks to an 82 run partnership between Izzy Joyce (41*) and Isabel Light (34), four Leinster bowlers claiming a wicket each. The chase then saw a sensational effort from regular number 7 Karina Bell, as she jumped to the top of the order and bludgeoned 72 from just 53 balls, however it wasn't enough for the home side as they fell short thanks to strong bowling efforts from Ashwi Manoj and Aisling Lawlor.
