#CLWD3 - Match Report

Match report from Angela Hickey - Greystones Ladies
Greystones Ladies 1st vs Rush C.C.
Greystones Ladies journeyed out to the cosy grounds of Rush on a classic Irish summer’s afternoon on the 31st May. Clouds loomed in the distance as the sun brightly shone as the match started with Greystones batting first.
Our first match of the season came late in the day, with the three preceding matches being cancelled, so there were cobwebs to be shaken off as the match began. Our first pair was Angela Garland and Annalena Morris. Keeping a close eye on the looming clouds the game started. Greystones began enthusiastically however are spirits were quickly dampened when a heavy shower caught up to us, stopping play. We returned to the field where the skillful bowlers of Rush’s Ladies team were certainly a challenge and as we attempted to get back into the swing of things led to us running down our batting order although, importantly, we made it through the 20 overs with Angela Garland getting the best of the innings.
After a short break Greystones Ladies took to the field. Opening our bowling were Angela Garland and Annalena once again. Due to us being down a player the fielding seemed like a daunting task, not helped by the stormy showers that stopped play a further two times. Despite this we went out and gave it our all with new player Paula being particularly impressive in her first cricket outing ever. Angela proved to be our prize asset of the day as she disposed of three of the Rush batters with style. At the end of the day being outmanned proved our downfall and Rush took the lead in 11 overs.
All in all there were a lot of useful pointers to take from this game. It was an enjoyable trip out to and it was great to get our first match under our belts. Improving on this opening performance is the main objective but no doubt we will achieve this and we can look forward to a great season.
