With just two fixtures remaining in the CL Under 23 District Cup competition, Dublin University is in pole position to secure the coveted Siggins trophy for the first time.
Dublin University sits on top of the table with 19 points whilst North Leinster and South Leinster have each accumulated 12 points.
The two Leinster sides play a T20 fixture on Wednesday next, 2nd July at 6pm at The Vineyard. The scenarios arising from this crucial game are as follows:
- If South Leinster finish their 2025 campaign with a win on Wednesday, Dublin University will be confirmed as 2025 Champions.
- If North Leinster prevail on Wednesday, the competition will go down to the last game - a refixture between Dublin University and North Leinster to decide the 2025 title.
This final game (potentially a title decider) is scheduled for Thursday 17th July at Oak Hill after which the trophy will be co-presented by Meena Baskarasubramanian (CL President) and Ger Siggins (Dublin University CC).
This refix was necessitated when the original fixture clashed with the Irish University team’s trip to Cambridge to compete in the Hone-McGregor trophy competition.
The U23 District Cup competition started on 7th May last when Dublin University beat North Leinster by 45 runs at College Park despite a solid 54 from Hassan Shahid for the visitors.
In the most recent game, South Leinster edged out North Leinster by just 10 runs at Park Avenue underpinned by a fine 84 from Hedayat Ullah Khogiani (playing on his home ground), backed up by a solid team bowling performance including Jayden Mammen (4/54), Dylan Cleary (3/24) and Srihan Karpe (3/33).
The previous winners of this competition were Dublin City (2023), Fingal (2024) so there will definitely be a new name on the Siggins trophy for 2025.
