CAPTAIN’S INNINGS SEES ADAMSTOWN SECURE DIVISION 4 CUP!

A captain’s innings from Samiya Ahluwalia was the key, as Adamstown secured the Division 4 Cup with an emphatic 8-wicket win over North County in Terenure this afternoon.

Having won the toss, Adamstown elected to bowl first, however North County began well, as Lauren Bolton shared good stands with both Eve McBride and Chloe Ericson, which saw them 59/2 after 10 overs.

A strong comeback for Adamstown began in the 14th over, as they dismissed Bolton for an excellently compiled 44, as Asmita Sahoo induced a nick through to Evelyn Sunil, before a sublime direct-hit run out from Samaira Ahluwalia claimed the fourth wicket of the innings, dismissing Jessi Foran Fanning.

Niveditha Saji made 19 not out in marshaling the final few overs of the innings, as North County finished 111/4 after their 20 overs.

Adamstown’s chase started promisingly, as skipper Samiya Ahluwalia and Eva Sunil opened proceedings with a stand of 36 in the first 6 overs. That could have been very different had an early catch, offered by Ahluwalia, been held at backward square leg, however it wasn’t to be, and the cost could be counted later.

The Ahluwalia sisters added 33 as a pair as Samiya began to open her shoulders, before Samaira was dismissed for 7, caught and bowled by Ericson.

That brought Evelyn Sunil to the crease to join her skipper, and the duo skipped to the victory target, adding the 46 required with 4 overs to spare, as Ahluwalia finished unbeaten on 57 from just 49 balls, including seven boundaries, sealing an 8 wicket win.
