All Ireland rankings catch up - July 8th

Our attempt to catch up after the summer break continues, and we promise that the All Ireland rankings will be fully updated by the end of this week!

Today's article looks back at the week ending July 8th, which wasn't that long ago, but in the middle of the cricketing summer, may as well be the previous season.

A quick look back at what happened that week.

In the NCU, rain ruined the Challenge Cup semi finals. The only substantial action was in Section 1, where leaders Lurgan lost to Downpatrick. In the Premier league, there were wins for North Down and Ballymena

In the North West, there were wins for Bready, Brigade, Strabane and Donemana, whilst in the Championship Burndennett beat leaders Glendermott.

Meanwhile in Leinster, it was Senior Cup semi final weekend, with two surprises as Clontarf beat Merrion and Malahide beat The Hills.

So not too much cricket around the provinces, so how did that affect the rankings?

At the top, Merrion's loss means that the gap between them and the chasers has narrowed convincingly. The Hills dorp down a place on the back of their cup loss. Brigade also move up to 8th after beating Bready by 8 wickets. Donemana moved back into second place in the North West, jumping over Coleraine after beating Ardmore by 6 wickets.

Four clubs moved up by more than one place, with pride of place going to Malahide, who beat The Hills in the leinster Senior Cup semi final, and moved up to 16th place on the back of it

Carrickfergus beat Bangor and Holywood in NCU Section 1, and moved past Glendermott and Phoenix to 28th. Burndennetet provided the surprise of the North West week, by beating Glendermott, and jumped over Drummond and Rush, reaching 37th overall.

Templepatrick also had a good week, and they beat Dundrum and Bangor in NCU Section 1, to move up to 44th

Tomorrow, we will look at the week ending July 15th
