  3. Alan Murray wide open - as usual

Alan Murray wide open - as usual

Of the four competitions that the top teams in the province enter every season, it is the Alan Murray Cup that is the most open, and that some teams have the best hope of winning. The last twelve seasons of Cricket Leinster's premier T20 tournament have brought nine different winners, with Clontarf, The Hills, YMCA, North County, Leinster, Pembroke, Railway Union, Merrion and Malahide all having lifted the Cup since the 2003 season.

Several different formats have been used over the last decade, with a straight knock out being replaced by an initial group phase of four groups of four, which was then discarded in 2013, to be replaced by two regional groups, with each team playing seven (or six matches in the south group) to determine the semi finalists.

A tournament that is difficult to predict is made harder by the fact that the squads of many teams are still not known. A new player here and there, or a crack pro can ,ake the difference between group stage exit, and cup glory. So rather than make s stab in the dark, here are some facts. Teams are listed in order of their Alan Murray T20 win rate since 2011, giving a good idea of who the teams are to beat.
