  3. Youth Cricket in 2013 – 9th July
11th July 2013 by Brian O'Sullivan

Youth Cricket in 2013 – 9th July

In 2013 we are scheduled to play in excess of 700 games in all competitions. This is the number after deleting fixtures for the ten teams already withdrawn by their clubs. Clubs have found a significant drop in the players returning from 2012. The most likely reason for this is the awful weather we had last year. Parents probably decided that there were other sports which can be played in rain and take less time.

Despite the much improved weather in 2013 it is disappointing to find that of 382 fixtures scheduled up to 9th July I am missing 136 results. When one adds this to the remaining fixtures there is going to be a fixtures backlog which will be difficult to complete.

Boys’ Leagues

U11A – Over half the games have been played and the unbeaten YMCA with 5 wins look to be odds on favourites. With 4 games left to play and only 1 defeat Pembroke could become runners up.

U11BN – Again with half the matches completed, the two top slots appear to be between Malahide A, North County A and Phoenix B.

U11BS – Less than half have been completed and Leinster B, Old Belvedere A and YMCA B are vying for the top two places.

U11CN – 50% played and there are maybe 5 clubs in contention.

U11CS – This is very similar to the northern section.

U13A – With only 20 out of 55 results in there are 5 clubs who have lost less than 2 games with Pembroke on top with 4 out of 5 and YMCA undefeated in 3 matches.

U13BN – This has Clontarf B, Malahide B and Rush B looking for the 2 top spots.

U13BS – YMCA B and Leinster B top the list with only 7 of 21 fixtures played.

U13C – The 5 clubs in this league have all got 1 win with plenty of games left.

The U15, U17 and U19 leagues have only had 3 fixtures played so far.

Girls’ Leagues

U11 – With only 21 of 78 fixtures played in the largest league in Leinster, Pembroke, The Hills and Clontarf A are all unbeaten with Malahide in contention also.

U13 – 15 of 36 games played and YMCA with 5 wins are the only unbeaten side.

There are only 2 games played in each of the U15 and U17 leagues.

Boys’ Cups

U11 – The final of the Fingal Cup takes between Pembroke and YMCA takes place in Sydney Parade at 4 30 pm on Friday 12th July.

U13 – YMCA have reached Friday 19th July’s final of the Watkins Cup and await the winner of the Pembroke/Merrion semi final. The venue and time remain to be agreed.

U15 – The semi final stage of the Yates Hale Cup has been reached with Merrion/North County and Clontarf/YMCA due to play on Monday next.

U15 T20 Gerry Duffy Cup

This is the only cup finished with Clontarf beating Phoenix and YMCA too good for Pembroke in the semi finals. Clontarf overcame YMCA in the final. All three games were played in Rathmines on Friday 28th June.  Many thanks are due to Leinster and Gerry Duffy.

Girls’ Cups

U11 – Clontarf and The Hills have reached the final due to be played on Thursday 18th July.

U13 – Rush/YMCA and The Hills/Merrion are the semi final pairings.

U15 – The Hills play Merrion in the semi final and YMCA have already qualified for the final.

U17 – The semi finals are Malahide/The Hills and Leinster/Railway Union.
