There were fours and sixes a plenty during the 'Street 20' Cricket camp at Carlow Institute of Technology, held over the Easter school break. Twenty-four children aged 10 and 11 from five local primary schools battled it out to see which school would be crowned the 2015 Carlow National Schools 'Street 20' champions.
Despite the fact that most of the participants had not played cricket before, the young cricketers quickly worked out what was needed to put runs on the board. The 20 balls per innings format lends itself to a fast and furious pace, which is ideal to capture the interest of the novice player.
The cricket camp was organised by members of Carlow Cricket Club with enormous support from Carlow County Council (Local Sports Partnership), Carlow Institute of Technology, Carlow Regional Youth Services, Cricket Leinster and local schools.
In the end, Askea Boys National School took the trophy, defeating Carlow National School 34 runs to 20 in the final. Congratulations to all schools and children who participated.
