Worth waiting for - July’s Photo of the Month

It has been a long time coming - July was the holiday season here, and it has taken a long time to catch up with everything.

Apologies for that, but we have a bumper stack of photos this week, with four from July, the July winner, as well as the announcement of a very late June winner.

First off is Gareth Carroll's panorama of the YMCA vs Railway Union T20 match earlier in July. Dale McDonagh takes centre stage - Railway went on to win the match.

Next is a shot that may not look that different from many other team shots, would have been a great finish to the day for the under 11 teams of Rush and Leinster. The Pakistan women's team were in Rush at the beginning of the tour. Basit Ali who played 69 times for Pakistan umpired the match - and the whole experience obviously was to the benefit of Pakistan - who went on to share the silverware and qualified for the T20 World Cup. The photo was sent in by Cillian McDonnell

A double act not to be crossed on a dark night next. Another of Gareth Carroll's shots from Park Avenue, the duo are Arthur Vincent (who doesn't really need any introduction), and Len Smith, ground consultant (who probably does)

The Railway Union theme continues with the July photo of the month. The photo is sent in by Aoife O'Brien. Ger O'Brien adds, "Leicestershire may have Alex Hales and James Taylor, we in Railway have Cian Dahdouh and Robert O’Brien, wonder what plan they are discussing."

And finally in the rush for the airport at the end of June, we forgot to announce the winner of June's comp.

Rodney Smythe's photo of umpire Azam Ali Baig having a break was deemed best - and will go forward with all the other monthly winners towards the Photo of the Year to be announced at the annual dinner in the autumn.

Please send in your entries for August to photos@cricketleinster.ie. All photos can be entered - as long as they have some connection with cricket in Leinster!
