Women’s cricket alive and kicking!

Friday 16th may

D3 Dublin University 1 v Railway Union 2

Railway Ladies 2nd's took on DU in College Park and skipper Anna Callahan having won the toss elected to field. Emily McAlinden started with the ball and took 4 for 27 off her 5 overs which started with a very good caught and bowled, Clodagh Ferry took 2 for 17 off 4 and Rachel Lamb 1 for 24 off 4. Steph Brann 16 and E. McAlinden 15.  DU were all out for 81.

In reply Clodagh shone with the bat and top scored with 28 and Emily McAlinden helped out with her contribution of 15.  Railway won in the 17th over reaching their target of 82 for 8. Railway 2 won by 2 wickets. An excellent start to the season by a very young and enthusiastic side. Thanks to Dave Diskin for umpiring, Molly Flanagan for scoring and various members for their support. - Sent in by Judy Cohen

Sunday 18th May

P40 Leinster 1 v Merrion 1

Merrion played Leinster at home in Rathmines with only 8 players. Leinster got 260-4 off 40 overs, Amy Kenealy finishing on 112(98) and Anna kerrison on 70(103). Isobel Joyce took all 4 wickets finishing with figures of 4-33 off 8 which was brilliant considering lack of fielders.
Merrion set about to chase, Isobel Joyce and Lena Tice opening. Teams had to come in after 8 overs when the rain came . Overs lost meant the second inning was reduced to 25 overs with a revised total of 178. Isobel batting brilliantly for her 85(71), before being stumped off Anna kerrisons bowling. Hannah de burgh whyte joined Lena in the middle and they saw the match home , Lena Tice finishing with a very well made 56(61) and Hannah de burgh whyte on 14(12). Merrion finished on 178-1 off 23.2 overs. Merrion won by 9 wickets. - Sent in by Hannah De Burgh Whyte
