  3. U17 Girls IPs Day 1
13th July 2021 by Naomi Scott-Hayward

U17 Girls IPs Day 1

Today is Day 1 of a four day competition between two U17 Girls teams from Leinster and a team from NWCU and NCU. We are delighted to be a part of what is sure to be a fantastic competition. Today we head to Donacloney and Tullylish with both our teams to play their first matches against the NCU and NWCU. The Leinster squad will play matches on Thursday in Rush CC and Friday again in Donacloney and Tullylish.

Emma McEvoy unfortunately got injured at the YMCA - Pembroke match last night, she is due to play on Thursday and Friday as well. So today we have 23 travelling up North, having left this morning at 7.30am.

Team 1, the blue squad, will be captained by Georgina Dempsey (Phoenix) and vice captain today is Ella Pasley (Phoenix). Travelling with the team we have coaches for the Blues Gaby Lewis and Team 2 coach Albert Van Der Merwe. Team 2, the red and black squad, is captained today by Juliette Evans-Garrett (Malahide) with Freya Sargent (Clontarf) by her side as vice captain.

We are also delighted to have Michael Hingston and Claire Shillington as part of the coaching team for this series.

“I am delighted to see this series taking place this year. We would usually have an U17 Leinster squad travel over to the Malvern Festivals in the UK, but with covid that option was not there for us. This tournament is sure to replace Malvern as the highlight of the year for many of these girls. I was trying to remember the last time we played U17 against U17 for the girls across the provincial unions and I think it was back in 2017 when we had a return fixture against the NCU in CSNI Stormont CC & Rush CC. Domestic cricket has come a long way since then with a lot of concentrated investment by all the provinces over the last number of years. It will be great to see this come to fruition.” – Naomi Scott-Hayward, South Leinster Development Manager.
