  3. The top wicket takers in Open Comps
17th August 2011 by Paul Reynolds

The top wicket takers in Open Comps

And on to those purveyors of flight and filth, pace and precision. In these days of bowling restrictions, 100 wickets in a season has long disappeared as a historical quirk. But 50 is still a respectable aim, and a pretty rare one at that.

Several players are in the race to get to the 50 mark, with Faran Khan of Pembroke leading the way. The bowling is much close than the batting, and Khan's 43 wickets are closely followed by several others.

The aforementioned Sanjay Saharan has 42 (for Merrion teams 2nds-5ths) before a bit of a gap down to a group of players around 37 and 36. This quintet consists of Stephen Langton (Sandyford), Ali Qasim (Balbriggan), Yaqoob Ali (YMCA), Matt Petrie (Merrion) and Nick Jagoe (Railway Union)

In this list of the Top 30 and ties (33 players in all), there are only four who have taken the required 26 wickets at an average of less than 10.

These four are Sandeep Sood (Civil Service 3rds) - 34 wickets at 6.56; Simba Mujeni (Knockharley 1sts and 2nds) - 32 wickets at 7.72; Vidhyasagar Gompa (Clontarf 2nds, 5ths, 6ths & 7ths) - 30 wickets at 9.13, and Danny Barclay (Pembroke 1sts and 2nds) - 26 wickets at 7.96

Here's the list
