  3. Which Teams to look out for this year.
7th April 2018 by Eddie Lewis

Which Teams to look out for this year.

AIB [Team of the Year] having just won the Russell Court Trophy for 2017

With Open Competitions about to start we have a final look back at the teams who performed well last season. With changes in personnel and movements between leagues there is no guarantee that last year’s form will be carried forward. But the outcomes from 2017 at least provide a starting point.

Forty nine teams and thirty one clubs found their way onto the Open Competitions Honour Board for 2017. There is always an element of judgement in choosing the Team of the Year but there can hardly be any argument over the top position for AIB who won all three of the competitions that they entered for. This season they move up to leagues to OCD12 - so they may not find things so easy.

The runners-up spot from 2017 goes to Clontarf 1st XI for winning the Irish and Leinster T20 Competitions and coming second in the league. Having let the league table slip last year - can they go one better in 2018.

Clontarf are also the most successful club with all five of their teams being written up in dispatches. Bagenalstown should also get a mention with their three teams making the list. And finally four out of five Adamstown teams had some success this year. We will be looking out for these clubs again in 2018.

The full list [and people can make their own judgement about how well teams have done] is set out below.
