  3. Targets reached by Lewis, Jones, Calder and Cusack
27th August 2011 by Gerry Bryne

Targets reached by Lewis, Jones, Calder and Cusack

A few more targets for the season reached over the last couple of weeks. All related to targets in terms of runs scored. It means that in relation to  the various targets that were set out at the start of the season, 19 have been reached so far this season.

DA Lewis

BA O’Brien is pretty well out of reach as the heaviest run scorer in Leinster League and Cup cricket with 21,765. Below him Alan Lewis two weeks ago scored 96 against Railway Union which saw him reach 14,000 runs. He now in fact has 14,082 and is about 350 runs behind DR Pigot who has 14,423, and is second to Ginger.  I suspect second place is a bit out of reach for 2011 but gives him something to aim at for 2012. He made his debut for YMCA in 1979 and is now therefore playing in his 5th decade.  When he reached the 14,000 runs it was in his 469th Match and 448th innings, of which 56 have been not out.  His average is 35.48 with 16 centuries and 91 Fifties.  As well as all that, the 500 wicket target is still just tantalisingly out of reach but where he did need 8 more wickets to get there he has now halved that target.

MA Jones

Another one club man, Mark Jones of Leinster, reached his target when he scored 67 last week against Old Belvedere to bring him over 7,000 runs.  Mark made his debut in 1990 and that match was his 337th, with 315 innings of which 18 were not out.  Taking into account a further score of 85 the day after he passed the 7,000 run target Mark now has 7,125 runs at an average of 24.07. While in League and Cup Mark has only scored 1 century he has scored 38 half-centuries.

Daryll Calder

Daryll reached his target of 3,000 runs when he scored 40 against Merrion. In fact he wasted no excess energy as he reached 3,000 precisely, following the example of Rod Hokin a week or two earlier who also reached 3,000 precisely. Daryll’s career started for Old Belvedere in 2000 and he later moved to The Hills.  Between his 2 Clubs Daryll has played 154 matches, 150 innings (13 not out) and has an average of 21.89. Daryll is still seeking  his first century in League and Cup but has passed 50 16 times with a highest score of 94.

Alex Cusack

Another man to reach 3,000 runs was Alex Cusack who got there when he scored 56 against Railway Union last weekend, becoming the second Clontarf man to reach that target this season. Alex made his debut for Clontarf in 2003. In all he has played 118 matches, 109 innings (22 not out) and has scored 1 century and 21 fifties.  He has totalled 3,029 runs at an average of 34.81.
