South Leinster got their 2026 District Cup campaign back on track this evening with a sensational one run win over North Leinster. An early blitz from the South Leinster opening batters set them on their way to their total of 195 which proved to be one too many.

Having lost the toss, South Leinster were put into bat and they set about their task in quick time, Mark Tonge (55) and Bruce Whaley (47) whacked the bowling to all parts, ending the powerplay 78/0.

From there North Leinster were able to stall South Leinster’s progress with wickets throughout the middle overs. Yaseen Sherzad was the pick of the bowlers with 3/45 while there were also wickets for Killian McGrane (2/29). However Luke Horgan (41) was able to wrestle back the momentum for his side in the back end and with the help of the tail guide his side to 195/6, North Leinster potentially rueing the 19 extras they bowled.

North Leinster’s reply got off to the perfect start, Seamus Lynch and John Devane went about the South Leinster bowling like men that knew they had the momentum, they moved their side to 74 before losing Lynch for a rapid 49 from 20 balls including 10 boundaries. There were contributions from John Devane (42) and John McNally (29), but constant wickets kept South Leinster just about in the box seat.

A late onslaught from Mohammad Sherzad threatened to derail things for South Leinster, however Tom Ford held his nerve in final over as his side eventually ran out winners by 1 run. Mark Tonge was the pick of the bowlers with 3/30 while there were also wickets for Sean O’Brien and Srihan Karpe.
