  3. SKELLIG SIX 18 TO SPONSOR OPEN LEINSTER SENIOR CUP COMPETITION
3rd March 2023 by Cricket Leinster

SKELLIG SIX 18 TO SPONSOR OPEN LEINSTER SENIOR CUP COMPETITION

In addition to being our ‘Official Spirits Partner’, we are delighted to announce that Skellig Six 18 is extending its sponsor partnership with Cricket Leinster to include title sponsorship of the Men’s Leinster Senior Cup competition.

As most people will already know, the Leinster Senior Cup competition is played for by the top teams in the province on a knock-out basis culminating in a major Final in early August (which is one of the show-piece events in the club cricket calendar).

The first round fixtures are scheduled to take place on Saturday 13th May as follows:

Dublin University v The Hills (College Park)
Pembroke v Terenure (Sydney Parade)
North Kildare v North County (The Maws)
YMCA v Leinster (Claremont Road)
Merrion v Railway Union (Anglesea Road)
Civil Service v Rush (Civil Service Ground)
Malahide v Balbriggan (Malahide)
Phoenix v Clontarf (Phoenix Park)

The competition itself dates back some 88 years to 1935 with 8 teams/clubs taking part in the first year – Leinster, Civil Service, Clontarf, Merrion, Dublin University, Pembroke, Phoenix and YMCA. It is a measure of their enduring capability that each of these clubs will also participate in the 2023 edition of the competition.

Not surprisingly, many of the same clubs also dominate the historic Senior Cup roll of honour with Phoenix having won the trophy on 15 occasions, Clontarf (13), Pembroke (12), YMCA (11) and Leinster (10). Dublin University have been Champions on 5 occasions including three in a row in 1961, 62 and 63.

The 2023 Final is scheduled for Pembroke’s Ground at Sydney Parade on Saturday 5th August and will be live-streamed throughout the day via the CL YouTube channel. As part of the day, there will be a CL Patron’s Lunch which will be preceded by a Skellig Gin reception.

The historic trophy will be presented to the captain of the winning team by June O’Connell (CEO, Skellig Six18 Distillery & Visitors Experience).

Our thanks to Skellig Six 18 for their support for the development of club cricket in Leinster – the team at Skellig Six 18 are working hard to build a business to compete and win on a global stage.

Community, determination and muinín are at the core for Skellig Six 18 making this sponsorship a natural fit for both parties. We encourage all clubs to stock Skellig as their pouring gin in support of those who support club cricket.
