Cricket Leinster is running an Indoor Secondary Schools competition with 3 schools taking part in the initial phase. Two South Dublin County Council area schools, Adamstown Community College and Colaiste Pobail Fóla, along with Confey College in County Kildare.
All 3 schools are feeder schools for Adamstown Cricket Club which is part of our ongoing programme to create effective connections between schools and clubs in additional to building cricket participation at secondary schools level.
Our CL Development Team has been delivering a combination of taster sessions and block-sessions in secondary schools all across South Dublin County Council (SDCC) area the last 4 years.
So this indoor competition is a logical next step and consists of three matches per team, a mix of age groups and an option with the type of ball to remove the requirement for protective equipment. It is indoor and the schools are all in relative proximity to each other. We have also encouraged peer coaching and for the teachers to be facilitators rather than stipulating a requirement for experienced cricket coaches.
MATCH SCHEDULE
Confey College v Colaiste Pobail Fóla 21st November, in Confey GAA Indoor Hall
Adamstown Community College v Confey College 28th November, in Adamstown Community Centre
Adamstown Community College v Colaiste Pobail Fóla 6th December, in Adamstown Community Centre
We now have after-school training sessions in all three schools with about 50 kids participating on a regular basis. We expect that this indoor competition will expand over the next period for the broader benefit of club cricket across the South Dublin area. .
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Active South Dublin (formerly South Dublin County Sports Partnership) for their continued support for all our cricket programmes in the South Dublin County Council area.
If your school is interested in getting a cricket team started for indoor or outdoor cricket and they are in South Dublin County Council please get in touch with Naomi Scott-Hayward:
