Season Review 2018 - YMCA 1st XI

YMCA CC – 2018 Review

With a sprinkling of Ireland internationals and Wolves and underage captains in their ranks 2018 had the potential to be a big year for the Sandymount side.

Despite having a big say in the destination of the Premier League crown, beating Clontarf to hand Merrion the title, YM couldn’t string consistent results together to put themselves fully in the frame when the trophies were being distributed.

A broken finger for captain Jack Tector, international selection for Simi Singh and a lack of form from some players all contributed to a comfortable mid-table finish, but early exits from the Irish and Leinster Senior Cups.

A sign of this is Tector selecting YM’s opening game of the season as their high point. Indeed it was a dramatic debut for the GOTD cameras as Harry Tector’s unbeaten 64 saw YM home by 1 wicket.

“Yeah, it’s probably our first game of the season winning against Merrion. We never felt in the game, but we got over the line eventually & with it being on Game of the Day it made it even better!”

Tector picked out two players for special mention.

“Asher Abassi has been magnificent in the back half of the season. He has matured superbly, and no one deserves it more. His spells against Clontarf (4 overs 2-20) and The Hills (4 overs 2-24) were brilliant.

“Mitchell Thompson is a young player who has made a real impact this season. He has great control for such a young leggy and he can also bat, Mitchell will feature higher in the order next season.”
