RSA Open Competitions: D4 Title Race

Barring a most unlikely series of events, Laois will take the Open Competitions D4 league title. Assuming the OCC confirm the points for the walkover from Oakhill, Laois will move on to eight wins and even if they lose their remaining two games with no points will still be ahead of Railway II [who lost at the weekend] and North Kildare. By my count Malahide could mathematically catch them if they won all remaining unplayed [4] matches with full points. I think it is probably safe to uncork the champagne.

By the same measure, even with their loss to Pembroke III on Saturday, Railway II should have enough to join Laois in D3 next year. At the bottom of the table things are not quite as clear cut. Mullingar recorded their first win of the season [the last team to do so across all the Open Competition leagues] and Oakhill may even drop below them. Pembroke III's victory over Railway probably makes them safe with three wins for the season. Phoenix II on the other hand lost to Mullingar and only have one more win than them. Mullingar have two more matches to play against Pembroke and Malahide so could conjure an unlikely escape if they won both and other results went their way.
