7th May 2018 by Brian Hamilton

Round up of yesterday’s Division 3 action

Clontarf 2 v YMCA 2

Yesterday the sun continued to shine over the Province of Leinster. In Division 3 YMCA 2nds made the trip across town to a resplendent Castle Avenue for their away fixture with Clontarf 2nds. They were in the field as the home captain won the toss and batted. Clontarf made 192 all out in 48.3 overs. However, it was a very lopsided score card with Opener Junaid Altaf amassing a brilliant 110 from 131 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes. Eddie Extra was second top score at 20 (15 wides), with Ian Smillie 14 and Asim Nazir 10 the only other double figure scores. Sean Mcauley 3-29 and Aaron Bailey 2-42 were the pick of the bowlers with the rest all chipping in with a wicket.

In a tight game YMCA took 1 over more to chase the runs down hitting 194 for 9 in 49.3 overs. Their batting line was more consistent with Andrew Blair White hitting 57, Aviral Shukla 14, Sean McAuley 32, Tim Tector 13 and Aaron Bailey not out 22 at the end. Naveed Khan 4-30 and Ian Smillie 3-39 the pick of the bowlers. However once again Eddie Extra contributed handsomely to the victory with 42 (25 wides).

YMCA 2 (20 pts); Clontarf 2 (5 pts)

North County 2 vs Pembroke 2

Spots in the shade were at a premium at The Inch yesterday where North County 2nds took on Pembroke 2nds in Division 3. County won the and had first use of the track. The managed just 183 all out from 42.5 overs. A few of their players got going but just could not keep going. Safdar Ali an impressively quick 51 from 20 balls, Sean Rooney 26, Irfan Arshad 24 also contributed strongly. Wickets fell at regular intervals. Daniel Barclay 4-21, Andrew Leonard 4-50 and Gavin Hoey 2-36 the wicket takers.

Pembroke seemed to be in a bit of a hurray as they make short work of the County Total. Opener Daniel Barclay was particularly severe on the bowling with 98 in 77 balls, hitting 10 fours and 5 maximums. Alec Barrett 73 not out from 82 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes. The bowling obviously suffered with Mikey Sludds and Craig May the only wicket takers for North County.

North County 2 (1 pt); Pembroke 2 (24 pts)

North Kildare 1 vs Phoenix 2

Phoenix 2nds travelled to The Maws for their Division 3 game with North Kildare. And on a beautiful day batted. The managed 227 all out in 49 overs. Stephen Black top scored with 33, Shazaib Ahmad 32, Naeem Shahzad 24, Nitin Naik 24 and Amit Battan 23 all contributed well. As did Eddie Extras with 39 (26 wides). Gulab Singh 3-38, Manjeet Singh 2-26 and Sajjad Maqsood 2-49 the main contributors with the ball.

North Kildare started steadily and were 97 for 2 when Tom Satchwell departed for 35. After that it was all downhill for the Kildare as they were bundled out for just 119. Opener Sean Dalton hit 36 and Satchwell 35. These were the mainstay of the innings. The Phoenix bowling was dominated by Nitin Naik with 4-12 from 6.4 overs. Gordon Millar 2-24 and Graham Morris 2-37 the other wicket takers. Phoenix winning handsomely by 103 runs.
