  3. Retirement of Ed Joyce from Cricket
24th May 2018 by Cricket Leinster

Retirement of Ed Joyce from Cricket

As Ed Joyce announces his retirement from all forms of the game everyone at Leinster Lightning and Cricket Leinster would like to pay tribute to his achievements, mark his contribution to cricket and to wish him well for the future.

Ed has been an integral part of Cricket in Leinster since schoolboy age and has always had a keen interest and involvement in the game locally. In recent years Ed has returned to Ireland and played for Leinster Lightning. As well as high performance in his own right he has also led from the front in the development of our up-and-coming talent.

As Ed plans for his life off the playing field we are sure that he will remain involved in Irish Cricket and in Leinster in particular.

Philip Smith, Cricket Leinster General Manager, congratulated Ed for his career saying “Ed Joyce has been a talisman to all cricketers in Leinster and further afield and his contribution to the game is immense. He will be missed on the field but we are sure that his involvement in Cricket Leinster matters will continue for years to come.”

Mark Jones, Manager of the Leinster Lightning team commented “Ed has been an inspiration to all cricketers over the course of his career and we wish him well for his retirement. It is great to see that he will remain involved in Irish set-up as he has a huge amount to offer.”

Eddie Lewis, Chairman of the Board of Cricket Leinster has known Ed for many years as he grew up in Merrion CC; he was delighted to wish him well for the future, “For many years Ed has been an ambassador for Irish cricket on the world stage. But he has also maintained his close contact with the club game and with the players he grew up with. His visits to Anglesea Road and around the grounds in Leinster were always something to celebrate. He has been a role model for young cricketers and there can be few who have not at one stage or other imagined following in the pathway that he created to a career in the sport. Always happy to pass on his vast knowledge of the game I have no doubt he will continue to motivate and inspire young players.”

Everyone in Cricket Leinster and the Leinster Lightning set up wishes Ed a happy retirement.
