14th June 2011 by Cricket Leinster

Report of LCU Executive meeting : June 2011

Report of the Executive Committee meeting of the Leinster Cricket Union for June 2011

Before the meeting the committee observed a minutes silence in memory of Joe Keogh The Hills who passed away recently.

Decisions for Executive

-        It was noted that due to work commitments John Andrews could no longer attend the executive and his resignation was accepted with regret.

-        Changes to promotion and relegation regulations – the proposals were endorsed by the committee. They will go to the Open Competitions Committee for implementation at the end of the present year subject to being accepted by a vote of the clubs. All clubs will be circulated and asked to vote by the end of June.

-        A new regulation is to be drafted by the Open Competitions Committee whereby if a player continues to play for a club after the 1st of August then as far as the LCU cis concerned the membership subscription has been paid and the club may not refuse to c release the player if requested to do so the following season. The onus is always on the club to collect membership fees.

Updates on live issues

-        System for loans to clubs this is being drafted and will be presented to the next meeting of the finance committee.

-        Suspect bowling action – a new procedural policy document has been drawn up.

-        Protocol for LCU/CI coaches – this was discussed at the Cricket Ireland committee and sent out by Mark Garaway to all coaches and managers at elite level. It will also be sent to all coaches of under-age teams in Leinster.

-        Establishment of Grounds Committee – John Andrews and Jody Morgan have agreed to stay on the grounds committee. President to seek new Chairman.

Regular reports

-        Monthly financial report – all clubs are to be reminded that the first half of fees are now due.

-        OCC – starring lists going well with players being starred correctly. Following a discussion on the draws for the Division 1 & 2 cups it was confirmed that the draw would continue to be carried out live on NEARFM where this is possible.

-        Youth/schools – the secondary schools have completed all their competitions successfully in a short 5 week term. The Leprechauns Cup for Primary Schools is at the quarter final stage. The format for this competition will be reviewed next year due to some very one-sided matches. Youth cricket in the clubs is up and running with increased membership in most clubs. Children’s officers and reporting persons are required for all clubs. .

-        Women’s competitions – Not a lot of cricket played to date.

-        Cricket Ireland – Jim Bennett gave a short report on the organising of the U19 World Cup Qualifier Competition. Railway Union have withdrawn from hosting on the Friday and Monday and a ground is required for both. YMCA are hopefully taking the Friday game but there is still a need for Monday. Unfortunately the Inter Pro was not played due to the weather and the second match may be played in Cork.

Monitoring reports

-        Usage of web site

During May there were over 26,000 visits to the new Cricket Leinster website from nearly 6500 unique visitors. Daily visits are regularly above the 1,500 rate with just under 20% representing new visitors to the site in May. The average time on site was nearly 5 minutes and while most interest is naturally from Ireland there are visitors from all the normal cricket playing countries as well as the US, Netherlands and Germany.

-        Disciplinary hearings – there were two meetings in May covering 6 cases to date as in previous years the outcome will be posted on the LCU web site.

New Issues

-    Club accreditation as proposed by Cricket Ireland will need to be tailored for Leinster.

-        Peter Flanagan, YMCA, is to review different options on electronic scoring. Cricket Ireland are looking at a product and we will look at that. It will also be investigated to see if the system can be incorporated into the web site.

Date of next meeting – 7th July
