Player Registrations: Just a short time to go

With just a few weeks to go before the season kicks off in earnest a quick update on and a reminder about player registration. By the end of March 970 players have registered for open and women competitions. There is still a way to go that everyone is competition ready but good progress has been made. The upgrade of the registration system to facilitate photo uploads has worked well and there are now only a small number of registrations held in abeyance pending the submission of player portraits.

One small change that some may have noticed is that there is now a four day waiting period for new players to enable the open competitions committee to check on their cricket history.

Looking at the distribution of the registration todate a few points stand out: -

  • the breakdown of nationalities [cricketing origins] currently stands at 55% registered players self-declared as Irish. This is for all registered players including youth. When youth are excluded - the percentage of players registering for open competitions who have declared as Irish drops to 35%
  • just under a third of those registered so far for Open and Women Competitions are Under 18,
  • 117 players are registered for Women’s Competitions

Cricketing origins of all players [including youth]

In terms of the clubs [as a reminder to some clubs who may want to encourage their members to register] the breakdown is as follows.

Players and clubs are reminded that even if they only intent to play in the Development League this year they still have to register in the normal manner. Starrings for all clubs with more than one team need to be completed by Tuesday week.
