An entertaining evening's cricket took place at Sydney Parade last Friday, July 26th, as a pre-cursor to the scheduled Leinster Senior Cup final in Clontarf between Pembroke and YMCA.
Many of Pembroke’s Leinster Cup winning side (v Old Belvedere at Sydney Parade in 1993) from 20 years ago rolled back the years and donned the whites while close rivals YMCA who won the Leinster League the same year also contained many players from years gone by.
A rain deluge at 5pm almost put paid to a highly anticipated clash and with the bar open the temptation was to settle indoors rather than strive to play. However, patience is a virtue and a move onto the artificial wicket and a reduced format of 15 overs per side meant play could get underway just 30 mins late.
One wonders if the same patience was shown in Castle Avenue how the Cup weekend may have panned out?
