Open Season - Review 2011 : Preview 2012

Senior League (Lewis Hohn Williams) – 93rd Year

Division 1 was won by Railway Union for the 3rd time (last time back in 1962) after being runners up for the 2 previous years. North County finished runners up for the 1st time having been winners 5 times in the previous 8 years).   The two teams to be relegated were Phoenix and Pembroke, the two who had been promoted in 2010.

In Division 2 Terenure won for the first time and were promoted for the 3rd time together with Leinster  (who were promoted for the 3rd time) to Division 1 for 2011. Old Belvedere and North County 2nds were relegated from Division 2.  Leinster 2 won Division 3, and this time, unlike in 2010,  they were promoted as Leinster 1 had been promoted to Division 1.Dublin University was promoted to Division 2 along with Leinster 2.

After the end of the season when a decision was made that matches in both Divisions 1 and 2 would be played on the same day, The Hills 2, who had retained their position in Division 2, decided that they would wish to play instead in Division 3. As North County 2 took the same decision when discussions took place as to which of the relegated clubs might be promoted back to Division 2, Old Belvedere reclaimed their position inn Division 2 for 2012

Senior Cup (Lewis Hohn Williams) 77th Year

Merrion won the Cup for the third time (last win was in 1960) with the narrowest of wins, beating North County (runners up for the 5th time) by 1 run in the final in a match that saw 543 runs scored. This was North County’s fourth defeat in the last 6 finals. The Cup Final was held in Malahide, the 5th time to be played there.
