  3. Open Competitions: Youth Figures
26th June 2015 by Eddie Lewis

Open Competitions: Youth Figures

Although not all youth players* have made it back into the whites following their exams, over 300 have and over the next few days we will provide details of how they have been performing in Open Competitions. We start with the top batters and bowlers [regardless of age, type or standard of competition].

So far this season there have been 41 half-centuries and 5 centuries scored by youth players. Overall youth players have made just over 14,000 runs. The highest run scorer is Nathan Johns [YMCA] who has made an impressive 455 runs already this season. Of the fourteen players who have scored more than 200 runs [in all forms of OC cricket for which scorecards have been submitted] the highest average is from Neil Rock [Rush]. Second in both runs scored and overall average is Harry Archer [The Hills].

The full list is set out below.

On the bowling front, 179 youth players have shared in 894 wickets. But only three players made it past the 20 wickets mark - with Harry Tector [YMCA] on top with 23 wickets. Of those that qualified with 15 or more wickets the best average is held by Daniel Coffey [Rush] and the best economy rate by Sam Streek [YMCA]. Again no account in these figures is taken of the type or standard of matches played.

The final set of figures is for the Most Valuable Player [MVP]. There are two separate headings - the first includes only Runs / Wickets [*20] and the second adds in Catches / Stumping [*10]. Only four players have got over 500 points with the table headed by two YMCA players.

On the wicket keeper front it is very tight with Mark Donegan [The Hills] leading the pack with nine dismissals and Danny Hogan [Pembroke] and Gearoid Lynch [Terenure] just behind on 8.

Apologies in advance for any errors or omissions. Sometimes this is because the DOB has been entered incorrectly or scorecards haven’t been sent in. If anyone sees a mistake in the figures please let us know -  e/mail to admin@cricketleinster.ie

*Under the new registration system for Open Competitions a youth player is defined as someone who is U18 on 1st January, 2015. This differs from the date used in youth competitions [under specific age on the 1st September the previous year]. For the annual age groupings we use the 1st September date.
