Day two of the tournament came to a close today at Oak Hill for the U17s with Navy out on top this time. It's one a piece for the Leinster Blue and Navy in the Cricket Ireland U17 Girls IPs as they head into the away leg of the series next Wednesday against the NCU and NWCU squads.
Five steady partnerships of over 20 runs from the bat for Leinster Blue; they were looking like they were building a good innings. Morrissey scoring 39 off just 28 balls in the end and topping the score for the team, along with Butterly on 25. A fantastic 5for for Gemma Sargent who not only took care of the openers, but took 3 of the last 4 wickets. Supported well in the field and witheconomical bowling by her teammates Leinster Navy made sure Blue closed out their innings almost 10 full overs early.
It really was a day of partnerships with the bat. Leinster Navy chased down 162 target in the last ball of the 27th over. A 36 run partnership between McLean and Lawlor gave them a stead start and when Sargent came on to replace McLean we saw the run rate climb. Their 112 run partnership off the next 105 balls were a joy to watch for coach Chuka Uba. Captain Lawlor did her team proud, topping the score with 73* off 74 balls. Notable spells with the ball for Leinster Blue were Hayden and Bhoja with one wicket each and a very tidy spell from O'Brien only going for 8 runs off her 5 overs.
