North Leinster: Guinness Cup Records

In the second of two articles to acknowledge the re-constitution of the senior inter-provincial series, we look back at the Guinness Cup [as it was known for most of its existence] that was competed for over the period 1966 – 1995 by six teams – North and South Leinster, Ulster Town and Country, the North West and Munster. In this article we focus on North Leinster [NL]

NL won the competition five times in 1968, 1972, 1975, 1982, 1985 [shared with NW], the same number of wins as South Leinster. It was also runners up in 1967, 1969, 1974 and 1981. The breakdown is as follows:

The highest individual score for NL was by Alf Masood [196*] in 1983. Twelve players in all got centuries:

The highest aggregate runs for North Leinster is Derek Vincent with 1361

The highest number of wickets taken was Michael Halliday with 191

Gerry Murphy took the most victims behind the stumps – 50
