The MCC Women’s team will visit Ireland for the second time this week, playing a two-match white-ball series against a Leinster President’s XI – with representative players set to feature on both days.
Monday 19th May: Leinster President’s XI v MCC Women (50-Over match; Merrion Cricket Club, Anglesea Road, start 11.00am)
Tuesday 20th May: Leinster President’s XI v MCC Women (T20 match; Merrion Cricket Club, Anglesea Road, start 2.00pm)
The CL President (Meena Baskarasubramanian) will be in Merrion on both days to host the visiting MCC Women’s team and to enjoy some high-quality cricket between two strong sides. Both matches will be ‘live-scored’ via the CL Match Centre and the CricClubs app.
Cricket Leinster would like to thank Merrion CC for providing their facilities for these important fixtures and we hope that there will be a decent turnout at Anglesea Road to enjoy good cricket.
The MCC women’s team is being overseen by the Ireland Women’s captain and MCC member, Gaby Lewis and includes some Ireland-based MCC members alongside squad members travelling from the UK. The Ireland-based players include former Ireland captain (Isobel Joyce) alongside Amy Hunter (Malahide) and Lara & Tess Maritz (both Balbriggan).
Isobel Joyce will represent the MCC Women on her home ground
The CL President’s squad includes Eimear Richardson who has over 100 International caps for Ireland across both ODI and T20I formats, having also played within the New Zealand domestic leagues for 14 years.
Eimear competed in her first Super Series game of the season last weekend scoring 56 and taking 2-32 with the ball for the Scorchers in a comprehensive win over the Typhoons at Oak Hill, County Wicklow.
These two games will also provide a great opportunity for some young and exciting players from the Cricket Leinster player pathway to test themselves against an experienced and highly talented MCC side. The CL President’s XI is primarily comprised of players from Leinster and Pembroke (3 each) alongside two promising young cricketers from Terenure in Cara O’Shea and Rebecca Cleary, Malahide's overseas player Meg Thompson, and Merrion's Aoife Brennan.
Cara O’Shea (Terenure) will represent the CL President’s XI
Jenny Sparrow is one of three Leinster players in the CL President’s XI
