Match Report - Phoenix v Pembroke

Having said good bye to Ed Sheeran, Phoenix welcomed Pembroke to the Park for their Mason Alexander/LHW Financial Planning Premier League T20 refix. On a beautiful evening the Home Skipper won the toss and decided to bat. And that's where things went downhill for Phoenix.

Experience and youth strode to the middle when Reinhardt Strydom and Rory Anders took guard. JJ Garth and Alex Ridley opened the bowling for Pembroke. Phoenix were soon in trouble. Rory Anders fell lbw to Garth for 0. Strydom went the same way for 6 and Adam Chester was caught by Andy Balbirnie again of the on fire Garth for a 1st ball 0. Phoenix were 10 for 3. Tom Anders became Garth's fourth victim bowled for 4 when the score was 21. Garth bowling a golden spell of 4 overs 1 maiden 4 for 7. Fletcher Coutts was Proving stubborn and was joined by Sinesipho Tsotsa. Coutts was caught by Theo Lawson off the bowling of Paul Lawson for 24. Ben White was run out by Theo Lawson for 1. Ian Anders and Tsotsa brought the score to 92 before Anders was caught by Fiachra Tucker off the bowling of Alex Ridley. Tsotsa was then bowled by Josh Little when Phoenix were 101. On the same score, Ali Karvelas was bowled by Alex Ridley. One run later Ridley closed out the Phoenix innings having Shazaib Ahmad caught by Fiachra Tucker for 0. James Maginnis not out 1. Extras the third highest score at 14.

Pembroke Bowlers led by the brilliant JJ Garth, 4-7 all bowled well. Alex Ridley 3-15, Josh Little 1-19, Paul Lawson 1-19 the other wicket takers.

If Phoenix were to have any chance early wicket were a must. Theo Lawson and Andy Balbirnie who opened the batting for Pembroke had a different plan. Lawson the only wicket to fall, when the score was 79, made 43 from 28 balls hitting 6 four. He was caught by Tom Anders from the bowling of Ben White. Balbirnie was joined by Fiachra Tucker to take Pembroke home. Balbirnie not out 48 from 49 balls, hitting 7 fours. Tucker not out 6 from 12 balls. Pembroke had sailed home by 9 wickets in 14.5 overs.

The Phoenix bowling attack didn't have much runs to play with only Ben White getting among the wickets with 1-30, Ali Karvelas 0-7, Rory Anders 0-12, Fletcher Coutts 0-24 and Reinhardt Strydom 0-27.
