A sensational game of cricket this afternoon in Park Avenue saw Lucan claiming the Ed Sports Russell Court Trophy for 2025 by the barest of all margins!

Having won the toss, DLR County elected to bowl first, and were immediately on the back foot, as a good start from Lucan’s opener Dhiraj Singh (25) saw them reaching 48 inside the opening 7 overs. That was nearly as good as things got, as Muhammad Hammaf came into the attack for DLR, claiming 4/12 from his four overs, and reducing Lucan to 70/6. Vishnu Raju helped boost the total with a late 18, guiding the side to 123 all out in the final over.

A solid start from DLR saw them reaching 37 inside 6 overs, before the dismissal of Shailendra Mishra stunted the innings. Lucan immediately squeezed and stalled the innings to 57/4, seeing DLR needing more than half the runs with 12 overs to go. With 38 needed off 24 deliveries, a huge 17th over saw 15 runs and brought the chasing side right back into things. They hadn’t reckoned on Shalitha Wijethilaka however, as he bowled the 18th over for just 3, claiming two wickets, and then nervelessly delivered the last over, securing a one run victory for Lucan, and seeing them claim the Russell Court Trophy.

Congratulations to Lucan, a thrilling final and deserving winners of the Ed Sports Russell Court Trophy for 2025. Our thanks to Railway Union for their hospitality as well throughout the day.
