  3. Lightning on the Road to Begin Defence of InterProvincial 50-Over Cup
16th September 2020 by Peter Boyd

Lightning on the Road to Begin Defence of InterProvincial 50-Over Cup

The Leinster Lightning today announce the 12-man squad to face the Northern Knights in their opening match of the Test Triangle Interprovincial 50-over Cup at Comber on Thursday.

There are two changes to the T20 squad that had its final match away to the Warriors abandoned last Thursday. Jack Tector returns to the Lightning having captained the Munster Reds in the T20 competition, while Josh Little has recovered from his hand injury to regain his place in the 12-man squad.

James Newland and Fiachra Tucker are the two players to step out on this occasion.

“It’s great to have Jack Tector back in the Lightning set-up following his time away during the T20s,” said Head Coach Nigel Jones.

“We’re looking forward to having Jack back and contributing to some strong Leinster Lightning performances over the next couple of weeks.

“It’s an exciting competition and we’re looking forward to the matches, with our first game away to the Northern Knights tomorrow. The boys are primed and ready, and looking to continue the good form we’ve shown in the recent T20 campaign.”

Meanwhile captain George Dockrell is looking to take the momentum from the T20 victory into the 50-over campaign.

“We’re really looking forward to getting into this 50-over competition. It was quite a short T20 competition with the weather and rain-reduced games, but we were delighted to have won that Trophy.

“We’ll now look to bring that momentum on with a very similar squad. There’s a lot of strength in depth with both bat and ball, and I’m excited to see how the guys go with some good prep behind us after the IntraSquad game last Friday.

“The first game will be on a good deck with the weather set to be fairly good. It will be a tough contest as always against the Knights but a great game to get started with.”

The Lightning 50-over campaign begins away to the Northern Knights at 10.15am on Thursday September 17th
