  3. Lightning are looking for a new bowler!
30th April 2014 by Leinster Lightning

Lightning are looking for a new bowler!

THE LEINSTER LIGHTNING INTERPROVINCIAL SQUAD ARE LOOKING FOR THE NEXT STAR-BOWLER OF LEINSTER CRICKET!

WIN THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE PART OF THE LIGHTNING SQUAD FOR THE 2014 INTER-PROVINCIAL T20-DAY IN PEMBROKE CRICKET CLUB!

Who are the Leinster Lightning?

The Newstalk 106-108fm Inter-Provincial series is now in its second season and comprises 3 competitions, namely the Inter-Provincial Championship (IPC) which is a three-day competition, the Inter-Provincial Cup (IP50), a 50 over competition and the 20/20 Inter-Provincial Trophy (IP20).

All 3 competitions are contested between your team, the Leinster Lightning, representing the Leinster Cricket Union, the Northern Knights representing the Northern Cricket Union and the North West Warriors representing the North West Cricket Union.

The IPC and IP50 competitions consist of 6 games each, with each team playing each other team home and away, whilst the 20/20 competition will be played over 3 days, one in each union.

The Leinster Lightning is coached by ex-Ireland captain and fast bowler Trent Johnston and is captained by Irish international John Mooney. The 2014 squad consists of no less than ten full international players. The playing squad is picked by a team of five experienced selectors based in Leinster.

In 2013, the Lightning won both the Inter-Provincial Championship and the T20 Cup and narrowly missed out on a clean sweep of all three titles.

I’m a talented bowler! What’s this all about?

The Leinster Lightning management, players and selectors would love to unearth all the hidden bowling talent in the Province! This is your chance to be discovered and to bowl at provincial batsmen in front of Trent Johnston!

In conjunction with Ed Sports Cricket Equipment, we will be hosting two sessions in May and we want you to come and show us your skill.

We will be in North Kildare Cricket Club on the 28th May 2014 from 6:30 to 8:30pm and in Leinster Cricket Club in Rathmines on the 30th May 2014 also from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Lightning batsmen will be facing your bowling and coach Trent Johnston will be judging the competition. The lucky winner will become the ‘13th Player’ in the Lightning squad at our home T20 day in Pembroke Cricket Club on the 3rd August when we take on both the Knights and the Warriors and will have the opportunity to associate with the players, be in the changing room during the day, take-part in the warm-ups and much more! Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the environment and atmosphere of a professional cricket team!

I’ll be there! How can I take part?

In order to participate in this competition, you must be a boy sixteen years or older who is a registered member of a cricket club affiliated to the Leinster Cricket Union. You must also be playing for a team in Division 3 of the Leinster league or lower.

All you need to do is decide which of the two days you’d like to appear on and then email all of the following information to findabowler@gmail.com. Please note that it is compulsory to register via email in advance of the competition – you will not be allowed to participate if you do not pre-register!

  1. Your name and surname;
  2. Your Cricket Club and the team you play for;
  3. Your age;
  4. The day you’d like to attend (North Kildare CC on 28th May or Leinster CC on 30th May);

The Leinster Lightning players and management would like to thank Ed Sports for their generous sponsorship of this event.

We can’t wait to meet you all in late May!
