Lightning announce 2014 squads

The Leinster Lightning selectors have the pleasure in announcing the following squad for the 2014 Interprovincial series of matches. We are also naming a squad of players who will train with the main squad for the entire season.

Leinster Lightning 2014 Interprovincial Squad

John Mooney (Capt-North County), John Anderson (Vice- Cpt Merrion), Ben Ackland (Merrion), Andrew Balbirnie (Middlesex/Pembroke), Peter Chase (Malahide), Bill Coghlan (Clontarf), Pat Collins (Railway Union), Alex Cusack (Clontarf), George Dockrell (Somerset), Tyrone Kane (Merrion), Fintan McAllister (Malahide), Barry McCarthy (Pembroke), Cormac McLaughlin (The Hills), Kevin O’Brien (Railway Union), Andrew Poynter (Clontarf), Stuart Poynter (Durham), Eddie Richardson (North County), Simi Singh (Y.M.C.A.) Max Sorensen (The Hills), Albert Van der Merwe (Y.M.C.A).

Leinster Lightning 2014 Training Squad

Rory Anders (Phoenix), Balil Azhar (Leinster), Mark Dwyer (The Hills), Allan Eastwood (Pembroke), Ryan Hopkins (Pembroke), Tomas Murphy (The Hills), Fiachra Tucker (Pembroke), David Watkins (Merrion).

We are delighted to announce that John Mooney will captain the Leinster Lightning for the 2014 season, with John Anderson serving as his vice-captain.

As selectors we are looking for continuity for the entire season & with Kevin O’Brien’s continued involvement in the CPL this is not feasible. John Mooney already captained the side in a number of games last season when Kevin was away and we are looking forward to the energy that John will bring to the role. The selectors would like to thank Kevin for his efforts as captain & in helping to secure 2 of the 3 interprovincial trophies for the Lightning last season.

The squad has a great balance of youth and experience and the Lightning are determined to go one better this season by winning all 3 Interprovincial trophies.
