Following a drubbing at the hands of the Leinster Schools Dev. XI and the loss of the actual Leinster Schools fixture to "progress", we entertained the Sussex Farmers in Phoenix on Wednesday last. Due to a late night pact (in Coppers!!) two opening bowlers (Zander v.d. Merwe(Clontarf) & Martin Hole(Chiddingly) swopped sides - with contrasting fortunes!
Leps got first use and reached 240 in their 40, backboned by local, Adam Chester's ton and a last wicket partnership of 40 between the evergreen (grey?!) Dick Forrest & Phoenix Pres., Michael Brown. Adam fell to v.d. Merwe in what turned out to be the first leg of a hat-trick.
The South African Farmer also led the way with the bat, left stranded on 88. The bauld Chester bowling B.Brierley with the 2nd ball of the last over with 7 needed. The Leps bowling unit:- Sam Streek, Alan Parkinson, Matt Lunson, Bard Ovenden & the said Hole all took wickets in useful shifts inspite of the fielding being ...well.... a little...grey! The apres-ski necessitated Phoenix making a quick call to Uncle Arthur on Thursday morning.
