Leinster welcomes new coaches

Coaches are critical to the success of any cricket development programme and as a result Cricket Ireland are currently running courses for new coaches to enter the coaching ladder at various levels.

The recently completed course in Leinster was aimed at beginner coaches who will be able to ‘assist more qualified coaches, delivering aspects of coaching sessions, normally under direct supervision’. This role may include running warm ups, cool downs, small sided games and small group work. The course was essentially designed for parents and volunteers starting on the coaching pathway.

The course will help coaches prepare for, deliver and review cricket coaching sessions. It will enable them to:

  • introduce and develop the game of cricket to people of all ages in a safe and enjoyable way
  • develop and improve players (as people as well as cricketers)
  • develop coaching skills, knowledge and qualities
  • demonstrate competence against UKCC/National standards for coaches

Those that attended the course run on Jan 22nd, 29th & Feb 5th include:

Maureen Brogan, Nick Clarke & Naomi Scott-Hayward (North Kildare), Matt Burke, Robbie Condron, Aisling Gill, Niall O’Brien & Ciara O’Carolan Murphy (Malahide), David Cavanagh (Co Wicklow CC), Chris Coburn (Railway Union), Hannah De Burgh White (Merrion), Robert Forrest & Laura Ershine (Clontarf), Robbie Kenealy & Michael O’Gorman (Leinster), Paul O’Boyle & Oleg Sivawantham (Adamstown CC), Sean Smith (Pembroke), Bernard O’Mara (Bagenalstown), Jayakumar Pillai (Dundrum).
