Cricket Leinster today unveiled the latest new addition to its youth programme by launching the exciting ‘District Cup’.

The District Cup is designed to increase interaction & enjoyment and provide even more cricketers in the Leinster Cricket Union aged 11 and 13 to access opportunities to play representative cricket during the school holiday period.

Based around a ‘Super 4s’ structure with each District hosting a day taking in teams from Fingal, South Dublin, Dublin City and Dun Laoghaire, with Ringcommons, Adamstown, Pembroke and Dun Laoghaire County Cricket Clubs initially agreeing to host.

The Union is placing considerable support behind the competition with each District having a lead development coach to support the staging and being on-site for each day to help participants enjoy their representative experience.

Fingal – Reinhardt Strydom

Dublin City – Fintan McAllister

The events this year will be played using Council branded coloured clothing and white balls.

Brian O’Rourke, Cricket Leinster’s CDM was delighted to add the district competitions to the Union’s extensive youth programme adding, “Thanks to the support of the Union, its member clubs and our Council partners, we are able to make representative cricket available to even more young cricketers in Leinster.
