Leinster to tour South Africa

2014 promises to be a memorable year for Leinster under-age sides with eight overseas tours planned, the highlight being a tour to South Africa by the boys U16 squad next February.

The squad will initially be based in the Eastern Cape region where three days of training will be followed by fixtures against both Muir College and Grey College in Port Elizabeth. Following this, the squad will travel to St Stithian’s school in Johannesburg to take part in the renowned Independent schools festival playing games against strong cricket schools like King Edward’s (KES), St Alban’s, St John’s, St Andrew’s, SACS, Bishop’s, Wynburg etc.

11 boys will travel out to South Africa on February 14th and will be joined for the 10-day trip by the four Leinster boys who will at that time be involved in the annual placement at Muir College, Uitenhage from January-March.

Rory Anders (Phoenix)*, Colin Currie (Clontarf), David Delany (Clontarf)*, Stephen Doheny (Rush), Marc Gibson-McKenna (Phoenix), Fionn Hand (North County), Daniel Hogan (Terenure)*, Stephen Keane (YMCA), Josh Little (Pembroke), James Meier (YMCA), David Murphy (Pembroke), Cameron Shoebridge (Malahide)*, Harry Tector (YMCA), Fiachra Tucker (Pembroke) and Ben White (Phoenix).

Fundraising for the trip is currently in full flow with lots of activities planned for the coming weeks – a quiz (Jan 10th at Rush CC), coffee morning (Dec 7th), supermarket bag packing along with the production of a comprehensive A4 size tour brochure.

If anyone would like to assist in this fundraising or place an add into the tour brochure please contact head of fundraising Heatley Tector at 085 8894122 or heatley@oceanblueaudio.ie
