  3. LEINSTER LIGHTNING IN BELFAST
3rd June 2024 by Mick Cotter

LEINSTER LIGHTNING IN BELFAST

The Sherwin O’Riordan Leinster Lightning will travel to Stormont this week for two back-to-back IP fixtures against the Northern Knights.

With the Ireland Men’s team competing at the T20 World Cup in the US, Andre Botha (LL Head Coach) is without no less than six of his first choice players. The IP50 fixture against the Northern Knights on Wednesday (5th) will actually be taking place at the same time as the Ireland Men’s team take on India in New York!

Leinster Lightning are unbeaten in the IP20 competition after 5 fixtures including one abandonment as neither of their last fixtures in the North West were completed.

The Lightning squad selected is broadly consistent with that which travelled to Bready a couple of weeks ago. Fionn Hand returns following his recent call-up for the International Tri-Series with Netherlands and Scotland.

That will mean Sam Harbinson of Merrion captains the side, as one of a battery of all-rounders selected including Pembroke leggie Gavin Hoey, as well as the returning Hand as already mentioned, and his Clontarf team-mate David Delany.

The bowling unit sees Hoey joined in the spin department by the left-arm off-breaks of Amish Sidhu from Phoenix, as well as right-arm off-spinner Dylan Lues, who has impressed on his outings since his debut in the T20 victory over Munster Reds last month. Olly Riley and Reuben Wilson are the other seamers in the squad, supporting the all-rounders who will spearhead the attack.

The batting unit features the bang in-form Tim Tector, who has struck both Premier League and Irish Senior Cup centuries in the past three weeks, as well as Merrion pair, opener Swapnil Modgil and Adam Rosslee, Balbriggan's Chris de Freitas, with Terenure's Séamus Lynch taking the gloves once again to complement his batting credentials.
