  3. Leinster launch 2013 Primary ‘Super League’
26th April 2013 by Brían O Rourke

Leinster launch 2013 Primary ‘Super League’

The first games in this year’s Primary schools ‘Super League’ have already started with five weeks of competitive hard-ball cricket to come during April and May . Two new schools have been added this year and shows the continued rise in popularity of cricket within Primary schools around the province.

Both Star of the Sea (Sandymount) and Zion NS from Rathgar are new to the 2013 competition. Star, who won the Leprechaun Cup for the first time are looking forward to the series of games that are planned for the coming weeks with  school principal Una Condon commenting:

‘Winning the Leprechaun Cup for the first time last year was a huge boost for sport at the school. We have decided to take the step-up this year to the Super league in what should prove to be a challenging few weeks for the boys involved. We have been lucky enough to have had cricket sessions delivered in the schoolyard throughout the winter with the younger age-groups so we are confident we will be competitive at this level in the years to come’.

Zion National School proved their inexperience was no barrier, as they ran out 9 wicket winners over St. Andrew’s in the first game of the tournament played at Leinster Cricket Club, Rathmines.

This year will see the introduction of a Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at the tournament with the leaderboard automatically updating after each game so players, teachers, coaches and parents can follow the teams progress – CricHQ are kindly giving a prize for the winning player and the ‘MVP’ of the tournament will win a new Gray Nicholls bat (Harrow Size).

For this year’s competition we will be working with CricHQ who provide a full competition management system. The system can cater for live ball-by-ball scoring, team and player results, player leader boards, and full match reports from the game. We will be initially inputting scores after the game but hope to in the future expand this and use the full functionality of CricHQ.

Another method of following scores and up to date league tables is on the Cricket Leinster website. www.cricketleinster.ie Go to ‘results’ or ‘league table’ on the ‘Youth’ tab and then search for either ‘Super League A’ or ‘Super League B’.
