  3. LEINSTER HOSTING BRADFORD PARK AVE LADIES TEAM (2-5 JULY)
3rd July 2024 by Cricket Leinster

LEINSTER HOSTING BRADFORD PARK AVE LADIES TEAM (2-5 JULY)

We are delighted to be hosting Bradford Park Avenue Ladies (BPAL) team this week with fixtures taking place at Park Avenue and Kenure as part of a week long tour for the team from Bradford in the UK.

BPAL was founded in 2019 for all women & girls. The club competes in the West Yorkshire Women’s & Girls League and the West Yorkshire Softball League for those who just want to have a bit of fun in a more relaxed setting.

The opening fixture of the tour took place yesterday (Tuesday 2nd) at Railway Union CC and we thank Railway for hosting this week.

The Leinster Under 17 Girls won the toss and decided to bat first. The innings was underpinned by three significant contributions with the bat - opener Alice Tector (57), Zoe Bell (47) and a solid 24 from Leinster captain, Niamh MacNulty. At one point, Leinster were 150-2 but the dismissal of Bell precipitated a mini-collapse as the Leinster innings subsided to 176 all out inside 35 overs.

Three bowlers did most of the damage for BPAL sharing 8 wickets between them - T Parveen (4-18), Mel Vaggers (2-16) and C Reed (2-24).

The BPAL chase was dominated by a fine innings of 56 from Mel Vaggers as Leinster took regular wickets in restricting BPAL to 115 all out in the 38th over of the reply.

The wickets were shared across the Leinster bowling unit with Isabelle Merriman (3-26) and one apiece for MacNulty, Tector, Trolese and Byrne.

Leinster won by 61 runs in a game played in great spirit and camaraderie. More of the same expected today when the teams return to Railway for two T20 fixtures at 10.30am and 2.30pm.
