It was a beautiful morning at Anglesea road for the two day clash between Leinster Schools and Ulster Schools. Leinster schools won the toss and elected to bat on a well-used wicket.
Ethan Clarke and Hasan Shahid set about their task in fluent fashion taking 59 off the first 12.3 overs before Clarke fell caught and bowled for 17 to Adam Leckey. That brought Seb Dijkstra to the crease and together himself and Shahid proved the mainstay of the Leinster innings putting on 152 together.
Dijkstra eventually fell for 71 bowled by Watt but Shahid carried on eventually bringing up his 100. He soon followed Dijkstra, run out by Leckey, this brought together Rob O’Brien and Ethan Marshall who provided some late fire power scoring 28 and 44 respectively as they dragged their team up to 286 off their enforced 55 over declaration.
Ulster schools kept the script of the first innings going strong, they laid a solid foundation with West and Yeates adding 92 for the first wicket inside of 19 overs. When Dijkstra joined the attack he removed West lbw quickly but the one way traffic remained in another good partnership between Yeates and the new man, Leckey. Ethan Marshall was able to remove Leckey just before the close of play after a short ball barrage.
Ulster Schools will return for day two on 139/2 trailing by a further 147 with 28 overs of their first innings reply left. Play will get underway at 10 am tomorrow as both teams push to get a result.
