It’s here! The 2018 Open Comps League Structure

It's here! With less than ten weeks to the start of the 2018 Cricket Leinster season, the league structure for the Open Competitions (those league open to all players irrespective of gender or age) has been announced.

The announcement has been held up by the news that North Kildare 1 wanted to be moved down to Division 3, along with the Open Competitions Committee's desire for a solution for Division 2 that satsified as many parties as possible.

That solution in Division 2 sees the Southern Stags play in 2018, a Munster Development team made of of players in Munster who do not play for Cork County. The Stags are one of six new teams entering the league, meaning that 130 teams will start the season - and if all 130 finish the season, it will make the league the biggest in Cricket Leinster's history (beating the 128 teams that finished 2015).

Those new teams come from clubs across the province, from clubs old and new - Leinster 6, Longford 3, Lucan 2, Tyrrelstown 2, Adamstown 6 and Wexford Wanderers 2. There have also been five teams who were promoted multiple divisions after dominant displays in 2017 - Dublin University 2, Ashbourne 1, Balbriggan 3, Tyrrelstown 1 and AIB 1.

The Development League - which aims to introduce youth team players to adult cricket at the same time as welcoming back former players to the sport, has been brought under the wing of the OCC - has another twelve teams. The Division 1 and 2 fixtures will be published shortly, with all other fixtures currently in the process of being made - with a view to being published in mid March.
