SHANE GETKATE'S superb 120 wasn't enough to save his Ireland Wolves side from a 102 run reverse against Gloucestershire Seconds in Friday's 50-over contest at Coombe Dingle.
The Northern Knights all-rounder hit 11 fours and cleared the ropes six times in his 93-ball innings, as Ireland Wolves tried to chase a daunting 347-run target.
Adam Dennison (27) sparkled briefly, while Lorcan Tucker (16) and Robert McKinley (15) stayed with Getkate in stands of 48 for the 6th wicket and 54 for the 8th.
Jersey international Ben Kynman was the pick of the hosts attack, claiming 3 for 32 as the Irish were dismissed for 244 with 13 balls unused.
Earlier, having lost the toss, Ireland were made to pay for missed chances - five catches being put down in the innings.
Openers Brandon Gilmour and Miles Hammond (62) took full advantage as they put on 144 in 24.5 overs before the stand was broken by Adam Dennison.
Gilmour top scored with 128 from only 118 deliveries (13 fours, 1 six), sharing a second wicket stand of 149 with Iain Cockbain, who thumped 88 from 67 balls (7 fours, 5 sixes).
Robert McKinley took four wickets and Tyrone Kane two in the final stages, but by then the damage had been done as Gloucestershire finished on 346 for 7.
"While it's always disappointing to lose a match, I'm delighted with the 100 today, as we spoke about lads kicking on from starts so it was pleasing to put that right today," said Getkate. "Hard work throughout the winter with the Senior Academy and Knights has paid off.
"We are obviously dissapointed from a team perspective we came up short today, but as a group we are learning from each performance and going into the T20s this weekend I think there will be a great opportunity to finish the tour strongly," added Getkate.
Instonians and Northern Knights all-rounder Robert McKinley has started the tour well, following up his runs against Bristol with a four-wicket haul.
"It's nice to pick up a few wickets against some good players, but there is still a lot to work on for me personally and as a unit," said McKinley. "I'm always happy to try and chip in with the bat when I can, and I'm been working hard on that facet of my game.
"We move onto T20's now which will be a really good test for the lads against some of Gloucestershire's white-ball players, with the group trying to learn from every game. Hopefully we can put in some good performances and execute our plans well."
Ireland will play four T20 games on Saturday and Sunday with the opposition being Gloucestershire Seconds, Bath and Bristol University.
