  3. Ireland U19 defeat Warwickshire
15th July 2017 by Cricket Ireland

Ireland U19 defeat Warwickshire

Half centuries from Harry Tector and Sam Murphy helped Ireland Under 19's beat their Warwickshire counterparts by five wickets to end their short tour of England to a successful note.

Chasing 216, Ireland lost Mark Donegan early but Murphy and Jamie Grassi (17) shared a half century stand for the second wicket to get the innings back on track.

Murphy struck 8 boundaries in a fluent 52, as he and Tector took the game away from the hosts.

Skipper Tector - whose elder brother Jack scored a century for Ireland Wolves this week - stroked five boundaries and one maximum as he top scored with a fine 72, before being dismissed with just 12 needed.

Graham Kennedy made a breezy 33 from 39 balls (4 fours, 1 six), while Neil Rock hit 13 not out as Ireland won with 5.1 overs to spare.

Kennedy (2-32) was the most successful of the Irish attack as they bowled with great discipline to restrict Warwickshire to 215 for 6.

Tector (1-27), Max Neville (1-34) and Varun Chopra (1-42) were the other successful bowlers.

Ireland U19 Head Coach Ryan Eagleson reflected on the win saying: "It's been an excellent week with beating Worcestershire and now Warwickshire.

"We've played very competitive cricket and this tour will stand us in good stead going into the World Cup Qualifiers in Jersey later this month.

"All the bowlers have got overs under their belts on good pitches and the batsmen have all spent time in the middle.

"All in all the tour couldn't have gone much better and the boys will go into the tournament with confidence.

"I'd like to thank Worcestershire and Warwickshire for all their exemplary hosting this week and hopefully we will be able to reciprocate their kindness in the coming years."

At Warwick School, Ireland Under 19's beat Warwickshire Under 19's by 5 wickets

Warwickshire 215-6 (50 overs; H Hargreave 54, N Hammond 39, H Mahmood 38*; G Kennedy 2-32)

Ireland 218-5 (44.5 overs; H Tector 72, S Murphy 52, G Kennedy 33; C Harrison 2-40)
