International opportunities for Leinster Youth in South Africa

Exciting news from South Africa with Cricket Leinster’s youth Glenwood High based cricketers enjoying the challenge of bowling to the Cricket Scotland squad in Pretoria prior to their World Cup qualifiers.

Louis McDonough, James Maginnis, Daniel Swift and Cillian McDonnell are following in the footsteps of Ireland U19 star Neil Rock in attending the prestigious Glenwood High school in Durban.

The news demonstrates the quality of the programme Cricket Leinster has engaged its young stars in once again in South Africa, and net bowling can be a real door opener. On a North East England tour, the tour organizers secured the Leinster development players a chance to bowl at Durham CCC prior to a T20 game vs Yorkshire. Peter Chase caught the eye of Geoff Cook, who invited him to return for a trial, going on secure a career breakthrough professional contract with the English county.

Brían O’Rourke, Cricket Development Manager for Cricket Leinster noted “I am grateful for the support of Glenwood High, and Cricket Scotland, in making this opportunity available for the young Leinster players. This is a great experience to receive at 16 years of age. It will challenge them and open their eyes as to what they can achieve if they truly dedicate themselves to their games. This is another example why Cricket Leinster are so keen that young Leinster cricketers take up opportunities we make available for them”.

The visiting Leinster boys will team up with the Irish squad today in Pretoria for practice and will be joined by Gavin Hoey who will be travelling across from his own base, St Stithians in Johannesburg.
